Pescada Bicuda ou Bicuda: O tesouro escondido que estava a preço de "banana" na Páscoa 🐟

Bicuda or Bicuda fish: The hidden treasure that was dirt cheap at Easter 🐟

It was Easter, and the fish markets on the coast of São Paulo were filled with a treasure still little known to seafood lovers: the barracuda, also known as bicuda pike. There was no Salmon, Tuna, or Tilapia. Sea bass was over R$100/kg.

But there was Bicuda, a small to medium-sized fish, with a small head, plenty of flesh, and few bones.

Its price during Easter: ONLY R$ 19.00/kg.

And it was super fresh. A real bargain for such a tasty and fresh fish.

The artisanal fishermen had already signaled that barracuda was abundant in the region, and one of them even caught over a hundred specimens by trolling, alone in his small boat.

But, even with such a generous offer, many consumers still didn't know the fish and ended up opting for more popular species at exorbitant prices.

However, those who allowed themselves to try the bicuda were surprised by its mild flavor and soft texture, in addition to a much more accessible price than other species.

After all, why pay more for a fish when you can have an equally delicious option at such a good price?

It was a real shame that many people missed this opportunity to try such a fantastic, local, and fresh fish. Perhaps due to its unappealing name or the fear of bones, but the truth is that the bicuda is a gem of the Brazilian coast that deserves to be more known and appreciated.

The bicuda, Sphyraena guachancho, is just one example among many other species that inhabit the waters of our country. We need to open our minds and palates to try new flavors and, who knows, discover a new hidden treasure at the bottom of the sea. If you haven't tried the bicuda yet, don't waste any more time! Head to the fish market and discover its fantastic flavor. Take the opportunity to explore the vast world of flavors and discover a new universe of gastronomic possibilities.
