Who doesn't know the blue marlin, the famous "swordfish"? This fish is a symbol of the oceans and sport fishing, due to its beauty and its jumps. Unfortunately, the species is at risk of extinction, and for this reason its fishing has been prohibited in Brazil. Its trademark is the spear it carries on its head.

This is the fish from Ernest Hemingway's novel "The Old Man and the Sea". The work is by an American, but the record for the largest Blue Marlin belongs to a Brazilian, Mr. Paulo Amorim! Caught on 02/29/1992, the fish was so big that it couldn't be brought into the boat and had to be towed to shore. It took 28 people to get it out of the water, as it weighed an incredible 636 kg and measured 4.62 meters in length. The feat was so remarkable that in Espírito Santo, the fish was adopted as a symbol of the state, with its day celebrated statewide on February 28th.
