General characteristics
They are coastal fish that live in open, deep waters, mainly in areas with rocky and gravel bottoms around islands, shoals, and reefs. In summer, they prefer more distant waters, and in winter, they seek estuarine areas. They feed on fish, crustaceans, and mollusks.
