Caranha is in the snapper family, along with dogtooth snapper and dentex. This species can weigh over 40 kg and is common on the Brazilian coast. It is a very challenging fish to catch due to its voracity and sharp teeth. Although not commercially well-known, its meat is of high quality.

General information

General features

This fish has thick lips and is also large. Its most striking feature is its canine teeth. Its coloration varies according to the depth the fish inhabits, ranging from red to dark pink. It is a species that has a minimum catch size and a closed season for reproduction. From August 1st to September 30th, fishing is prohibited and the minimum size is 50 cm.
