General characteristics

This species should not be confused with the Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei. As it lives in shallow waters and sandy regions, it is frequently caught by artisanal fisheries, making it of significant financial importance to riverside communities. There is no commercial farming of this species, only wild capture!
