General characteristics

There is no specific fishery for this species; it is often associated with other catches. The real problem is finding it, which is easy for those with access to a fishing port, but very difficult for those who only see fish at the market. The unpopularity of the garfish is due to something quite improbable: the color of its bone! The garfish's bone is blue-green, and this has given it a popular reputation for being toxic and to be avoided.
